NALEO Congratulates New House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair

Tagged: , ,

The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) issued the following statement regarding the election of Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) to chair the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs for the 112th Congress:

“The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) congratulates Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) for her election to lead the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs in the new congressional session.

Rep. Ros-Lehtinen makes history with her elevation to this key position, becoming the first Cuban American to lead a full committee in the U.S. Congress, and the first Hispanic to chair the committee. She becomes only the second Latina in history to chair a full committee. Rep. Ros-Lehtinen is no stranger to milestones, becoming in 1989 the first Latina elected to Congress. She is a former Florida state legislator and educator, and a former member of the NALEO Board of Directors.

Rep. Ros-Lehtinen is a distinguished leader in the Latino community and a tireless champion of international issues.

She is a valued friend of NALEO, and we look forward to continuing to work with her in the new congressional session.”
