Small Business Owners in Southern California Competing for Verizon Wireless Grants – will award grants totaling $40,000 in value to help spur technological advancement of Latino-owned firms

Twelve Latino small business owners will earn cash and technology grants later this year from Verizon Wireless. As part of its Latino Small Business Awards contest, the company is accepting applications through November 12, 2010. Applicants must be based in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura or San Diego counties.

“Verizon Wireless is committed to supporting Latino small business’ growth,” said Christina Gonzalez, Verizon Wireless associate director. “We’re making a difference at a time when access to capital and resources has become difficult.”

The Grand Prize package includes $2,500 in cash, ten Motorola Droid 2 smartphones and service for one year on these devices. Four second prize winners will receive $1,000 in cash and one Motorola Droid 2 smartphone. Seven third place winners will each receive $500 in cash and one Motorola Droid 2 smartphone.

Applicants must explain how a Verizon Wireless grant will help them change and expand their businesses. The company will choose contest winners on November 19, 2010 and announce grant recipients on December 2, 2010.
