The Nielsen Company, leading global provider of media and consumer information and analytics, is completing another successful celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of special events celebrating the historical, artistic, culinary, and other contributions the Hispanic community has made in America. Nielsen actively engaged in more than 25 national and/or local Hispanic events across the country during the months of September and October.

Last month, the company, which employs more than 5,000 employees in 16 Latin American countries, launched its activities by sponsoring the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Board of Directors Luncheon, The National Hispanic Foundation of the Arts and Latina Leaders: Celebrating our Voices Gala in Washington, DC. Nielsen paid tribute to many accomplished and dedicated Latino leaders who have made an impact in their chosen professions and have contributed to the social and cultural fabric of our nation.  Also during September, Nielsen hosted a delegation of students from The Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), one of the most prestigious universities in Mexico and Latin America, at its Schaumburg, Illinois, offices.

“Nielsen is committed to supporting and celebrating diversity,” says Mónica Gil, senior vice president of public affairs and government relations for Nielsen. “Our involvement with Hispanic businesses and leaders and our engagement at the community level is continuous year-round across the country. We are thrilled that Hispanic Heritage Month provides us with a further opportunity to reinforce our commitment and to celebrate the myriad of cultures that make up the Latino landscape in the United States.”

Nielsen’s activities celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month also extend to its employees. The Hispanic Organization of Leaders in Action (HOLA), an internal employee resource group with members from across all Nielsen offices nation-wide, organized several Hispanic Awareness Month events including the Cincinnati Hispanic Festival and the Clearwater, Florida, Heritage Festival. HOLA is regularly engaged in the company’s initiatives and provides insights into Hispanic consumers.

Activities still planned for the remainder of the month include sponsorship of the Tampa Museum of Science and Industry’s Hispanic Scientist of the Year Gala, the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute’s Student Leadership Series in Chicago and the 100 Latinos Celebration in Miami. As part of its ongoing inclusiveness, the company maintains a culturally relevant micro site for Hispanic communities, www.nielsen.com/latinos, which explains Nielsen’s measurement methods and services, and how panels and surveys are representative of the diverse population.
