Tagged: California, immigrant rights, immigration reform, Los AngelesIt’s day 4 in the 5-day campaign to raise funds for immigration reform and already the Ayudemonos Nosotros Mismos campaign has received donations from more than 4, 800 individuals in Latino communities. The campaign’s main motive is to celebrate Immigrant Pride Month and encourage Latinos in Los Angeles to help each other out by making donations for litigation costs to combat SB 1070 in Arizona, for immigration proposal through the Dream Act and AG Jobs, and lastly, to motivate and mobilize the Latino vote, especially since the elections are exactly two months away.

During the week of August 30 – September 3rd, activists from several major Latino organizations took to the street to contact tens of thousands of Angelenosto spark dialogue about the current immigration situation and to gain monetary support to help fund the immigrant rights movement. The campaign has been well received and has resulted in thousands of donations and media support from Entravision, Telemundo and Univision, among others.

Ayudemonos Nosotros Mismos campaign took shape after the LA City Council unanimously approved a resolution declaring the month of August 2010 “Immigrant Pride Month.” The campaign is meant to counteract Arizona’s racist SB 1070 Act and create a new narrative, one that celebrates immigrants and encourages inclusion. The amount of donations received thus far is a reflection that unity is a strong tool for progress and change.
