The Grand Bicentennial Parade & Festival press conference to be held on Friday September 10, 2010 at Mexican Consulate located at 2401 W 6th St, Los Angeles CA 90057 at 11:30 a.m.
On this special landmark occasion The Grand Bicentennial Parade & Festival will be televised in part by ABC Ch. 7.
This year, the world commemorates Mexico’s bicentennial anniversary of independence from Spain and its establishment as a sovereign nation, which coincides with the 100th year anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, another milestone in the history of the country. The parade stands as a symbol of union and joy, having gathered hundreds of thousands of participants and attendees each year and expecting to do so again this year, with this monumental reason to celebrate Hispanic Heritage.
Some highlights of the historic festivities include renowned Spanish tenor and conductor Placido Domingo as this year’s Grand Marshal, as well as the participation of designer Raul R. Rodriguez, who joined forces with the Bicentennial Mexican Independence Parade to create a group of floats that will feature Mexico’s rich history and culture.
Previous grand marshals have included actor/personality Mario Moreno “Cantinflas”, singer songwriter Juan Gabriel, actor Anthony Quinn, actress Kate Del Castillo, anchor Maria Elena Salinas, anchor Don Francisco, President Ronald Reagan, and Norteño music group Los Tigres del Norte.
“We are honored to have Placido Domingo as the Grand Marshal of the parade on this most important year commemorating Mexico’s bicentennial anniversary,” said Sergio Tinoco, President of the Comité Mexicano Civico Patriótico.
Placido Domingo, born in Spain and raised in Mexico, is one of the most talented, versatile and beloved operatic tenors of all time. His illustrious career began at the Mexican National Conservatory of Music and then in the Mexican National Opera as Alfredo in La Traviata. Included among his 19 GRAMMIES for musical recordings is his GRAMMY for best Mexican-American Performance in 2000-“100 Years of Best Mariachi”. He has performed in every major Opera House in the world and is currently the Director of both the Los Angeles and the Washington National Operas.
The parade will take place at N. Indiana Street and E. Cesar Chavez Avenue, ending in Belvedere Park. The celebration will continue at the park with a mariachi festival, music, entertainment, attractions, food vendors, merchandise and fun for the whole family.
The Grand Bicentennial Parade & Festival in Los Angeles is presented by the Comite Mexicano Civico Patriotico, produced by UNO Productions, and endorsed by the Consulate of Mexico, City of Los Angeles, and the County of Los Angeles.
