“I am writing in hopes that you will update your readers on some great news around a Latina’s one woman show, BROWNSVILLE BRED.
I just returned to NY from LA where I was nominated for OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO LOS ANGELES THEATRE IN A SOLO PERFORMANCE. I have also been asked to perform FOR and BY The TIME WARNER GROUP as part of their Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration… This after the editor of Real Simple Magazine championed me to their HOLA organization within the Time Warner Establishment.
All Wonderful Things continuing to happen and the play continues to GROW and EVOLVE. I am very happy to have gotten picked up by an Actors Equity Association Theatre in Westchester County where I will be opening their season and performing September 30th through October 17th.
Attached herein is a press release developed by a publicist. I wanted to make it available to you in hopes that you will consider updating your readers on the progress of a Beautiful Urban Latino story making its way to the suburbs and gaining recognition from Coast to Coast.

Press Release:
THE SCHOOLHOUSE THEATER PRESENTS “BROWNSVILLE BRED” WRITTEN, PERFORMED AND LIVED BY ELAINE DEL VALLE
The Schoolhouse Theater proudly presents Brownsville Bred, a play written, performed and lived by Elaine Del Valle. A sexy, classy and open hearted tale of a Latina’s coming of age in 1980′s Brooklyn, Brownsville Bred will have you laughing through your tears.
Brownsville Bred is a true-to-life celebration of a young person with a remarkable spirit who triumphs over tragedy. Crime, drugs and poverty mix with the joys of family, hope, salsa and the birth of rap, to create a truly remarkable evening of theater. The audience not only meets Elaine, but is also introduced to her portrayals of many colorful friends, family and neighbors she encounters along her way.
Brownsville Bred was developed by Ms. Del Valle at the legendary Wynn Handman Studios in New York City. At the 2009 “One Act” Festival in New York, the play won Best Actress, Best Script and Best Show. In 2010, Ms. Del Valle opened the show in Los Angeles and was nominated for “an outstanding contribution to L.A. theater in a solo performance.”
Schoolhouse artistic director Pamela Moller Kareman saw the play in New York and loved it. “I was so touched by Elaine’s performance that I felt we had to bring it to our Westchester audiences, who are always interested in seeing compelling new work.”
Kareman, as director, and Del Valle as playwright and performer, are collaborating on a more complete and fuller version of the play than what showed in New York and Los Angeles. “It’s a very exciting work in progress,” said Del Valle, “and I look forward to sharing it with the people of the Westchester area.”
The New York Daily News named Brownsville Bred a “powerful” Top Pick. Steven Morris, the chief critic at the LA weekly “GO” said, “GO! With fashion model beauty and a smile that can melt iron, Puerto Rican Del Valle…has a squeaky voice that can be tinged with a growl hinting at the ferocity of her performance mingled with the sweetness of her portrayal.” Vince Duvall at LA Theatre Review wrote, “Sexy, classy and open-hearted, I believed and rooted for her from the start.” The Santa Monica Mirror described the play as “hilarious and ultimately moving.” For more information, go to www.brownsvillebred.com.
Brownsville Bred opens on Thursday, September 30 and runs through October 17. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, and Sunday at 4 pm. Tickets are $30 on Thursdays and Fridays, $32 on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Schoolhouse is a unique setting for the arts in Westchester. Built in 1926, the brick building served as an active school until 1976. Galleries exhibit many fine local artists, while the theater, where every seat feels like a front-row-seat, accommodates enthusiastic audiences of less than 100. Theatergoers enjoy the intimate quality of the space, as well as the all-Equity casts who bring theatrical excellence and experience from Broadway to Croton Falls.
A regional Equity theater, The Schoolhouse is dedicated to presenting professional theatrical performances by award-winning playwrights. The New York Times has called The Schoolhouse “Westchester’s sole claim to consistent, professional theater, where people can see plays they are not likely to see elsewhere.” North County News writes “There’s nothing like live, intimate theater, and you won’t regret discovering The Schoolhouse Theater’s many charms that have earned it acclaim well beyond its environs.”
The Schoolhouse is located at 3 Owens Road, Croton Falls, NY, just off exit 8 on I-684. For information and reservations, call 914-277-8477. Visit the Schoolhouse on the web at www.schoolhousetheater.org.
