MAPA DEMANDS ASSEMBLYMAN FELIPE FUENTES STOP THE BETRAYAL OF THE CALIFORNIA DREAM ACT STUDENTS

Tagged: , , ,

Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes is the only thing that stands in the way of the California State Assembly Appropriations Committee approving funding for U.S. citizen and immigrant students, which they require to reach success in their studies. The Assembly Appropriations Committee had previously approved funding for the California Dream Act, which is an extremely important state legislative proposal that allows U.S. citizen and immigrant – considered “AB540″ – students to apply for non-competitive student aid at California public colleges and universities.

Assemblyman Fuentes serves as the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and was responsible for stripping the funding for the California Dream Act.

The Dream Act students represent the best that our community has to offer as a new crop of leaders facing extremely difficult odds as they fight for a successful educational experience. Literally thousands of immigrant students attend college and the university with no financial aid due to their immigration status. Yet, they study on carrying full-time course work, and employment obligations.

The California Dream Act would, for the first time, allow these students the opportunity to obtain financial aid to assist them along their path to complete their higher education goals.

Assemblyman Fuentes stands in their way, and the constituents of his district, cities spread throughout San Fernando Valley, a Democrat (39th Assembly District), and the communities throughout the state, need to know that “one of their own” has turned his back on his own community.

We demand that Assemblyman Fuentes immediately restore the funding for the California Dream Act and support this historic legislation.

Assemblyman Fuentes can be reached at his Capitol Office (916) 319-2039 and Fax (916) 319-2139 or his District Office in the city of Arleta at (818) 504-3911 and Fax (818) 504-3912. Please call him today to demand the return of the funding and his support for the best of our youth.
