Co-Founder and Principal of PZS Architects and President of Puente Construction Enterprises Acquires Growing Minority Business Specializing in Building and Janitorial Supplies

PHILADELPHIA — Mario Zacharjasz, AIA, Co-Founder and Principal of Philadelphia-based PZS Architects and President of Puente Construction Enterprises, today announced his purchase of 503 Corporation. 503 Corporation is a Philadelphia-based and certified minority business enterprise that offers maintenance building supplies, cleaning supplies, maintenance equipment, safety products, office furniture and office supplies to commercial buildings in the region.

Zacharjasz, currently president of the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects, leads PZS Architects, a well-established firm based in the City employing 25 professionals who have completed some of Philadelphia’s most highly visible projects. He also serves as president of Puente Construction Enterprises, a Woodbury, New Jersey-based design-build and construction management firm of 30 professionals serving government clients such as the National Park Service, Department of Interior, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army and the U. S. Coast Guard on the East Coast from Key West to Maine. The acquisition of 503 Corporation will contribute to Zacharjasz’s passion for making a difference through minority business development in the supplies industry.

Zacharjasz purchased 503 Corporation from Founder Raymond Yabor. Yabor formed the company in Kensington in 1992 to expand upon his growing restaurant and food service business. 503 Corporation was one of the first minority-owned and certified businesses in the Philadelphia area that offered and supplied an extensive variety of products for the commercial building industry.

“Mario Zacharjasz epitomizes the business and civic leadership Philadelphia needs right now to continue and flourish,” said Kevin Dow, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Director of Commerce, City of Philadelphia. “We are gratified that he is demonstrating his commitment to sustaining jobs in the city through this transaction and for retaining a minority-owned firm in Philadelphia.”

Zacharjasz, a Temple University graduate, is also committed to community service. He serves on the board and is a past chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is current president of the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He also serves on the boards of the Moore College of Art and Design and the Philadelphia Center for Architecture, and formerly served on the boards of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. In addition, Zacharjasz served on the Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Construction Industry Diversity and is a current member of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s Board of Directors, where he serves on the Real Estate Development Committee.

“As a business leader you must reach out and get involved beyond your industry. Success in business is a result of collaboration and partnerships. You can’t do it alone,” said Zacharjasz.
