On Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 6pm to 9pm, the first annual Paella Parade will take place outdoors at the Whole Foods Store Rooftop in Lincoln Park. Local chefs and restaurateurs from the Chicago area will unite for this first-of-its-kind event to showcase and highlight their Paella making skills accompanied by wines from Spain’s leader, El Coto de Rioja. Tempranillo and Spanish food fans are expected to turn out in droves to witness Paella making at its best! The ticket price of $30 and available for purchase will allow aficionados to taste every Paella presented as well as a selection of Rioja wines from the El Coto de Rioja brand imported by Frederick Wildman & Sons. Local sponsors such as Acqua Panna and Rodas Coaching are also on board in this exciting event, with Whole Foods as a major force in getting Chicagoans to fall more in love with everything Spanish!

“We are excited to be joining forces with Lincoln Park Young Professionals, Whole Foods and area chefs at this event,” commented Victor Charcan, Grupo Baron de Ley’s Export Manager. “It is a natural marriage of wine, food and comraderie, and one that the Spaniards know how to do well!” “It is also the first time an event of this nature has ever been organized in the states,” continued Charcan “and one that El Coto de Rioja—Spain’s premier Rioja wine—is very proud to be sponsoring.”

Throughout the afternoon, gourmets and gourmands alike will witness chefs in action and taste their culinary results. At 8pm, the public will have the opportunity to vote–in the spirit of friendly competition–on the following categories: Prettiest Paella Presentation; Most Creative Paella; Best Use of Ingredients in a Paella; and finally, Paella Parade Pleaser. Lou Canellis of AM Fox News will be the emcee and guide guests through the various tastes that will be made available that evening.

The Paella Parade is sponsored by Frederick Wildman and Sons, importers of El Coto de Rioja; Whole Foods Lincoln Park; Lincoln Park Young Professionals; Paris Gourmet for Mueloliva Oil; Despana Brands Foods for Sollana Arroz Cebolla Bomba; PaellaPans. com and Signature Wines and Spirits, a division of Southern Wine and Spirits of Chicago.
