Pan American Bank (Los Angeles) today announced that has partnered with the UCLA Youth Methamphetamine Treatment Study, LatinoGraduate.net and The Wall-Las Memorias Project to host a town hall meeting that addresses the negative health and societal consequences of methamphetamine abuse by Latino youth.

“Methamphetamine abuse is a significant problem that creates severe negative health and societal consequences.  While methamphetamine affects nearly every community in Southern California, Latino youth in the East Los Angeles area may be particularly impacted due to political, economic, and social inequalities,” said Pan American Bank CEO Jesse Torres.  “This town hall meeting is provided to increase awareness of the work being conducted by the Greater East Los Angeles Meth Task Force.”

On Saturday, May 8th, 2010, a town hall meeting featuring a panel of professionals, community leaders, and community members will discuss the issue of methamphetamine abuse among Latino youth and will highlight resources available in East Los Angeles that address methamphetamine problems.

The town hall meeting will be broadcast live on the Internet at www.livestream.com/lsacnational/.  Panelists will take questions from viewers via e-mail at LSACnational@gmail.com.  The program will also be available for on-demand viewing after the event at www.LatinoGraduate.net.

A studio audience will be present for the webcast at LatinoGraduate.net’s Web Broadcasting Studio located at Pan American Bank’s corporate headquarters, 3626 East First Street, Los Angeles, CA 90063.

WHAT:           Town hall meeting that addresses the negative health and societal consequences of methamphetamine abuse among Latino youth.
WHY:              To discuss the issue of methamphetamine abuse among Latino youth and to highlight resources available in East Los Angeles that address methamphetamine problems.

The UCLA Youth Meth Treatment Study is conducting a clinical research study on methamphetamine abuse that includes counseling, study medication, and compensation.

The Latino Scholastic Achievement Corporation (LASC), founded in 1992, is a national educational 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The purpose of LASC is to increase the number of Latino secondary and college graduate by providing them with key information via web broadcasts and audio clips found on its web site at LatinoGraduate.net.

The Wall-Las Memorias Project, founded in 1993, is dedicated to promoting wellness and preventing illness among Latino populations affected by HIV/AIDS by using the inspiration of The AIDS Monument as a catalyst for social change.
