“Latino Speakers Bureau announced that Hispanic inspirational speaker, Shayla Rivera, will receive the 2010 Latino Speakers Award for Excellence in Los Angeles on March 25th in acknowledgement of her work in motivational speaking, educational messaging, and community advocacy. The award ceremony will take place within the Latino Comedy Fiesta at Steven’s Steak House located at 5332 Stevens Place in City of Commerce, CA, a fundraising event that Rivera hosts each year to help Familia Unida Living with Multiple Sclerosis.

“Shayla Rivera creates a motivational bridge for audiences with positive, uplifting conferences about making changes that turn around careers, businesses, and personal lives,” says Leonor McCall-Rodriguez, founder of Latino Speakers Bureau.

Rivera recently launched a new motivational program to jumpstart personal motivation. Corporations and organizations around the country are experiencing Hispanic speaker Shayla Rivera’s new program: Coaching Well-Trained Fleas, a 90-minute seminar focused on the skill necessary for overcoming self-imposed limitations, based on personal beliefs and conditioning. “Our core problem is that we don’t even know what we believe, why we believe what we believe, and where the belief came from. Our conditioning and upbringing is the answer to that and the key to achieving real change,” said speaker Rivera.

With a successful career as an aerospace engineer at NASA Houston Space Center, and a renowned actor, comedian and motivational speaker, her studies and interest in psychology have led her to develop programs that are entertaining, inspirational and educational. Rivera most recently was the keynote speaker at the National Conference of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), at Western Nebraska’s Latina Red Dress Day, and at the Annual Gala of the Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce. A board member for Familia Unida Living with Multiple Sclerosis, she has recently toured with shows for U.S. servicemen, spoken on the importance of women’s health and prevention, and inspired business leaders to stay engaged with their communities.

As a Latino Speakers Bureau awardee, she joins a group of successful Hispanics, including Dr. Joachim de Posada, TED University speaker and best-selling author of “How to Survive among Piranhas” and “Don’t Eat the Marshmallow yet,” with over 2.5 million copies sold.

Founded in 2002, the Latino Speakers Bureau TM is a California-based corporation representing Hispanic professional motivational speakers at latinospeakers.com. Familia Unida Living with Multiple Sclerosis was founded in 1998 by Irma Resendez after her own diagnosis of MS, and is the first bilingual English-Spanish multiple sclerosis non-profit organization in the U.S.. Familia Unida serves thousands of individuals and families each year who are affected by MS and other debilitating diseases in the greater Los Angeles area.
