The Latino Commission on AIDS today announced the official launch of www.latinoaids.org/cielo, its website for Cielo Latino, the largest annual national fundraiser for the Latino community in its fight against HIV/AIDS.
The website was developed not only to promote the event, but also to engage the community in the fight against the disease.
“Cielo Latino, this year commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Latino Commission on AIDS and honoring the legacy of our former President and Founder Dennis DeLeon, allows for all our supporters to come together and celebrate all we’ve achieved as a community,” said Guillermo Chacón, President and CEO of the Commission.
In addition to having regular newsworthy updates leading to the gala, the website will have important information about the event, hosted this year by CNN’s Soledad O’Brien.
It will also have an online Silent Auction feature to allow participation by those unable to attend the event. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Commission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Latino/Hispanic community.
The website is part of the Commission’s broad outreach campaign which also includes the use of Facebook as part of its online social networking efforts.
“Social network sites give individuals an outlet to broadly distribute their messages” said Annie Mulgrew, Development Officer for the Commission. “Our Facebook page, “Latino Commission CieloLatino”, allows us to reach our community more effectively and personally than ever before. More people are learning about the Commission and Cielo Latino from their peers and that translates into more support from our community.”
