NCLR Urges Swift Confirmation of Yzaguirre as U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic

“NCLR National Council of La Raza, the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, today urged the rapid confirmation of Raul Yzaguirre as Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee begins confirmation hearings on the nomination today.“As I noted at the time of his nomination last year, Raul Yzaguirre will be an outstanding ambassador for our country because he is a great example of our country at its best,” stated Janet Murguía, NCLR President and CEO.“Raul Yzaguirre is among the most distinguished Americans of his generation, not just because of his numerous accomplishments at NCLR, but also based on the breadth of his career,” Murguía continued. “He served our country in the U.S. Air Force, fought the War on Poverty under Sargent Shriver, founded a highly successful business, and held other positions in the nonprofit sector. And after three decades at the helm of NCLR, he is currently a Presidential Professor at Arizona State University. Throughout his career, Raul has maintained deep interest in and key insights on international affairs. Serving as U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic will be a fitting capstone to an extraordinary life of public service.”“We applaud the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for initiating the confirmation process for this enormously qualified nominee, and we urge the Senate act expeditiously to confirm him,” Murguía concluded.”
