“On February 13, 2010, a reception will be held in Queens, New York for the Colombian community. The reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Natives Restaurant, located at 82-01 Northern Blvd, and in attendance will be Senator of the Republic of Colombia, Armando Benedetti. The host will be community leader Eduardo Giraldo.

In order to meet the most urgent needs of Colombian communities outside of Colombia, the reception serves as a community meeting aiming to create a space for dialogue, which becomes a mechanism for citizen participation within the community.

Mr. Eduardo Giraldo invites all the Colombians living in the area to attend in order to speak to them on several subjects relating to strengthening the participation, autonomy and cultural identity of the Colombians living outside of Colombia. The event will feature the participation of members of our community and elected officials from New York City to welcome our guest of honor Armando Benedetti.

The core of the event is to recognize that Colombia is a nation with a population abroad that needs attention. In this way, Senator Armando Benedetti is positioned as the first representative of the Colombian government that is present in the city of New York to listen to his compatriots with their problems and needs as immigrants in the Big Apple reaching out to the community to create tools designed to overcome poverty, social inequities, legal, political, economic and cultural.
