NALIP Board members Alexis Garcia (WME) and filmmaker Margarita de la Vega-Hurtado, along with “Wizards of Waverly Place” Executive Producer Peter Murrieta, co-chair this year’s event. They have invited top visionaries to help us all navigate the many options and opportunities in a challenging time. This year we will showcase what is actually working right now for writers and directors, performers and producers: What genres? What funding strategies? What distribution plans to deliver real revenues? And what partnerships in a wild and confusing sea of possibilities?

This event is organized as a creative and business event for Latino filmmakers, and for those interested in Latino content. As we look at all the changes in media making, distribution, marketing and creation right now, NALIP’s 2010 conference will include plenty of professional development and networking opportunities. This is a dynamic, unique and inspiring weekend. Top-level speakers bring analyses of the documentary and television industries while projecting trends of relevance to us all. Artists hold intimate conversations about their craft. Workshops teach skills for emerging and mid-career filmmakers. Pitch and screening events showcase skills and ideas. Awards celebrate past triumphs and recognize rising talents. Meeting events like the concurrent Latino Media Market make matches between executives, funders and projects.

NALIP 2010: NAVIGATING IN A SEA OF CHANGE is presented by HBO and the National Latino Media Council. NALIP 2010 will feature executives from HBO, Sony, ABC/Disney, Time Warner, PBS, SiTV, CBS, Fox, CPB, NBC, Showtime, WME, CNN, and more. It will involve guilds and unions like SAG, WGA, AFTRA and the DGA while examining the craft of artists like Peter Murrieta (“The Wizards of Waverly Place”), Soledad O’Brien (“Latino in America”) and Rodrigo Garcia (MOTHER AND CHILD). It will have workshops for actors and directors, documentary makers and aspiring television writer/producers. There will be a chance to get in the room with top executives, to practice pitching, and showcase directing reels. And we will hold our sixth Latino Media Market for strategic business meetings.

In total, it will be an important event not to be missed as the entire industry navigates the sea of changes affecting us all. We look forward to seeing long-time members and industry leaders, along with new members and makers. This is the place to be if you are part of or interested in Latino media. Plan to spend a dynamic, creative weekend with us!
