SALINAS, Calif. – (Business Wire) The Tri-County Association of Latino/a Elected Officials, along with local LULAC Chapters, joined an unprecedented coalition of prominent Latino organizations and national Spanish-language media to conduct a Census Training in Salinas – called ya es hora !HAGASE CONTAR! (It’s Time, Make Yourself Count!) – to inform and motivate the nearly 50 million U.S. Latinos to fully participate in the 2010 Census.
Historically, the U.S. Census has produced an undercount of Latinos. The ya es hora ¡HAGASE CONTAR! (It’s Time, Make Yourself Count!) census campaign will seek to enhance the Bureau’s efforts to count Latinos, through a sustained and aggressive community education initiative that seeks to mobilize hundreds of local organizations on the ground, and saturate the market over the airwaves.
The training will provide resources and a tailored engagement strategy to assist Latino elected officials, local leaders and organizations with their outreach to hard to count communities in Monterey County. This effort will require local groups with ties to the Latino community to spearhead campaigns within their own communities.
