Last week Latinas made history: 1st Latina Supreme Justices in Texas & New York & 1st Latina US Attorney in Massachusetts – (truly amazing!)
Tagged: attorney, Diccia Pineda-Kirwan, Eva Guzman, latinaThis really is amazing given the states and their size/power (well not Mass in terms of size) and interesting in terms of its reflection of Latino demographics. It was hard to imagine Sonia Sotomayor as a Supreme Court Justice and now in the span of a week at the beginning of 2010 these three have changed history.
It really should be national news but I haven’t seen it anywhere except as individual stories. I am very proud of these ladies and only wish I could highlight this more.
- Dominican Diccia Pineda-Kirwan takes oath as first Hispanic woman in NY Supreme Court
- Eric H. Holder Jr., the nation’s first black attorney general, swore in Carmen Milagros Ortiz as the first woman and Hispanic US attorney in Massachusetts.
- Texas Gov. Rick Perry appointed Justice Eva Guzman to the Supreme Court in October, and swore her in Monday – 1st Latina!!
