Paired alongside Raquel Bessio, Pablo Uribe and Jan Burgos, the artists participated in the Uruguay Pavilion of the 53rd International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. Gustavo Tabares will lead the accompanying lecture titled Contemporary Art of Uruguay. The lecture will discuss Uruguay’s cutting-edge Latin American art including artists Raquel Bessio, Juan Burgos, Wilfredo Diaz Valdez, Lacy Duarte, Pablo Uribe, Ernesto Vila, and Nelson Ramos. The lecture will take place on Thursday, January 21 at 2pm.
Artist Jacqueline Lacasa’s project The Uruguayan will also be on view. A Uruguayan artist herself, Lascas describes her work: “The Uruguayan explores the role of women in a world where life, love and death are the signs of the times. In this environment she dismantles the iconography of modernity in a battlefield where a witness is surrounded by a world at times hostile, defiant, sacred and magic. Recreating the paintings of late XIX century the woman is a survivor in the XXI century where the fight for power is faced by creating new spaces for life.“
The Museum of Latin American Art will curate a special project space.
The LA Art Show will feature 100 galleries from around the world, showcasing more than 10,000 significant paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings and prints on display and available for purchase. The IFPDA’s 25th Annual Los Angeles Fine Print Fair will accompany the Los Angeles Art Show.
