“Feliciano has been acclaimed by critics throughout the world as ‘the greatest living guitarist’.” – New Times
After recently performing at The White House for The President and First Lady as part of PBS’ “In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina” broadcast, José Feliciano is set to play at another American landmark tonight, as he will perform “Feliz Navidad” at the lighting of The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree as part of the first (7PM) hour of NBC’s 12th Annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” telecast. Feliciano joins an impressive line-up of artists that includes Michael Buble, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Barry Manilow, The Roots and Shakira.
As the calendar page turns to December, “Feliz Navidad” is again demonstrating its enduring popularity, as the timeless Christmas classic is already the #1 selling Latin Music song at iTunes – once more claiming the top spot it holds each year through the holiday season.
Already the winner of seven GRAMMY Awards, the music of José Feliciano was honored further last week, as The Recording Academy announced that “Feliz Navidad” has been inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame- which “serves as a celebration and reminder of the triumphs and achievements of the recording arts” and “honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance”. Feliciano’s bi-cultural Christmas classic joins such famed recordings as Louis Armstrong’s “Lazy River,” the Beach Boys’ “California Girls,” James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” the Doors’ “Riders On The Storm, and Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Catch A Fire” as part of this year’s group of 25 new songs added to the collection on display at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles.
Following his appearance tonight at Rockefeller Center, New York area fans of Feliciano will get another opportunity to spend another holiday evening with the “world’s greatest living guitar-player,” as José will also perform at The Iridium Jazz Club on December 21st.
