REVOLUCION WINS HISPANIC PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSOCIATION’S CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR FOR AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION PROGRAM

“REVOLUCION’s bilingual public relations campaign for the American Heart Association, “Hearts in the Heights”, was named Non Profit Campaign of the Year at the 25th Annual Hispanic Public Relations Association Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 8. “At the heart of HPRA’s Campaign of the Year is the desire to showcase the innovative, creative, and cultural competence of campaigns and to have them be recognized by the PR industry’s leading professional Hispanic organization,” said HPRA President Ivette Zurita.

This past February, REVOLUCION created a bilingual awareness program for the northeast affiliate of the American Heart Association called “Hearts in the Heights.” The program was designed to increase awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of Latinas in the U.S and to generate Spanish-language media coverage for the organization and its Go Red Corazón initiative.

REVOLUCION created a partnership between the AHA and the Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning Broadway musical “In the Heights,” which chronicles the experience of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico in the eponymous Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights. The agency secured leading tri-state radio station Amor 93.1 FM (Spanish Broadcasting System) as the campaign’s media partner and Tony® Award nominee Olga Merediz as the program’s lead spokeswoman.

The association between AHA and the musical was anchored by they storyline of “Abuela Claudia” (Ms. Merediz), the neighborhood matriarch who suffers from heart disease. The program impacted nearly 10,000 audience members in-venue through a bilingual curtain speech, print collateral, lobby signage and AHA giveaways. The wider New York Latina audience was reached through cast member interviews with Spanish-language media and appearances at key AHA events.

“There are a wide range of social concerns that affect the health and wellbeing of U.S. Latinos,” said Damaris Lasa, Regional Director, Multicultural Media and Marketing for the American Heart Association, Founders Affiliate. “’Hearts In the Heights’ brought many of these to light in an incredibly rich and entertaining way. Through this PR program, the American Heart Association was able to highlight the emotional impact of heart disease and deliver a poignant call to action to Latinas in New York City. The program is a model of how to truly inspire change and we’re honored to have been awarded HPRA’s Non-Profit Campaign of the Year Award along with REVOLUCION.”
