What: The eighth annual NASA Hispanic Youth Conference will be held Sept. 25 in Huntsville, Ala. More than 100 high school students from across Alabama are expected to take part in the conference, sponsored by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, the “Mi Futuro” program at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Redstone Federal Credit Union and the North Central Alabama Boy Scouts of America. Student participants will meet with NASA and industry leaders, scientists and engineers, and participate in seminars and workshops on continuing their education, managing finances and pursuing rewarding careers in business and technical fields. Members of the Huntsville-area news media are invited to attend.
The 2009 conference theme is “Preparing For the Future: Planning Our Finances in Difficult Times.” Redstone Federal Credit Union will host the conference. Marshall Center representatives will lead workshops about NASA careers and the importance of technical studies — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — and will encourage students to consider NASA education opportunities such as “INSPIRE,” the Interdisciplinary National Science Project Incorporating Research and Education Experience. In 2009, nearly 400 students applied for INSPIRE summer internships at NASA field centers nationwide. Some 150 of them, representing 23 states and Puerto Rico, were selected to work on cutting-edge science and engineering projects and gained critical firsthand experience in tackling real-world business challenges.
When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Sept.
Where: Redstone Federal Credit Union, 220 Wynn Drive, Huntsville
To attend: News media interested in covering the conference should contact Betty Humphery in the Marshall Public & Employee Communications Office at 256-544-0034 no later than noon on Thursday, Sept. 24.”
