Thousands of Young People from California to New York Stage Events to Raise Awareness of DREAM Act

WHAT: More than 125 groups of young people from 26 states will demand action from lawmakers to support America’s future doctors, lawyers, educators, and activists by passing the DREAM Act, which will give undocumented students a path to work and live legally in the country they love. From California to Massachusetts, students will host rallies, soccer games and letter-writing campaigns to raise awareness of this piece of legislation.
WHO: Students are mobilized through the United We Dream network, a national youth-led coalition that works to advocate for the DREAM Act. Outreach efforts are supported by SEIU, the National Immigration Law Center, and the National Immigration Forum.
WHERE: More than 125 locations in 26 states, including Los Angeles, Calif., Tallahassee, Fla., Overland Park, Kansas, and Detroit, Mich.

BACKGROUND:
Actions on September 23 will range in size, with hundreds of DREAMers expected in Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and Detroit. There are currently 99 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and 24 co-sponsors in the Senate for this important piece of legislation.
