Fifteen artists from six different countries have confirmed their participation in the second “Concierto Paz Sin Fronteras” (Peace Without Borders Concert), which will take place in Havana, Cuba on Sunday September 20th to coincide with the United Nations’ International Day of Peace.
The participants include Amaruy Perez (Cuba), Danny Rivera (Puerto Rico), Juan Fernando Velasco (Ecuador), Jovanotti (Italy), Juanes (Colombia), Luis Eduardo Aute (Spain), Miguel Bosé (Spain), Olga Tañón (Puerto Rico), Orishas (Cuba), Silvio Rodríguez (Cuba), Los Van Van (Cuba), Carlos Varela (Cuba), Víctor Manuel (Spain), CuCu Diamantes & Yerba Buena (U.S.A/Cuba) and X Alfonso (Cuba).
Concierto Paz Sin Fronteras will take place at the Jose Marti Revolution Plaza between 2PM and 6PM local time. The Paz Sin Fronteras stage will be located at the same spot where Pope John Paul II held his historic mass in January of 1998. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert organizers have requested that the artists and the audience wear all white attire to symbolize peace.
All artists have agreed to perform just their most popular songs and that the concert will not present political messages of any nature. There will be no presenters on stage – just music performers.
A total of 128 people including artists, musicians, management and technical staff will travel to Havana to stage the concert. Additionally, more than 160 journalists from across the globe have been credentialed to cover the event and various television channels and websites are planning to air the second “Peace Without Borders” concert live. Concierto Paz Sin Fronteras will be aired via satellite through Cuban television and the signal can be used freely without restriction in any country and through any television channel, website or radio station that makes a request.
Discussing her participation in Concierto Paz Sin Frontera, famed Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón -winner of multiple GRAMMY & LATIN GRAMMY Awards – says: “On September 20th, god-willing and with much sacrifice, we will accomplish our goal. Only time can pass judgment on our contribution to this historic event. I maintain my faith that music can weave together the souls of humanity and that we the artists are simply the tools.”
Juan Formel, founder and director of Los Van Van orchestra states “This is a global initiative and is of great interest to the band, as it is to all of Cuba. Although this concert for peace has created some controversy in Miami, many people worldwide have voiced their support.” The Cuban poet Amaury Perez further explains, “The message is that we should be championing peace every single day.”
“We expect that this Peace Without Borders concert will serve as a bridge for better understanding in the relations between all Cubans, particularly with the youth” said Colombian rocker Juanes.
“I am going to Cuba because I want to,” succinctly declares Miguel Bosé. “ This concert is a clear gesture of peace, and that is why I am participating as a Cuban ,” adds Silvio Rodriguez.
The sound system, LED video screens and other elements of the concert’s production will be shipped from the United States to Havana for temporary use. Since the event is free of sponsorship, the costs for the local production will be covered by the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) assigned to the islands’ local Ministry of Culture. Additional production costs are being covered directly by some of the participating artists, and no artist will be charging a fee for their performance.
The SGAE, Air Europa, A&C Charters and Aerosur will be collaborating to cover rehearsals and airfare.

COMUNICADO DE PRENSA A PROPÓSITO DEL CONCIERTO “PAZ SIN FRONTERAS EN LA HABANA”
Quince artistas de seis países han confirmado su participación en el segundo concierto “Paz Sin Fronteras” que se realizará en la Habana, Cuba, el domingo 20 de septiembre, como celebración del Día Mundial de la Paz.
Los participantes son Amaury Pérez (Cuba), Danny Rivera (Puerto Rico), Cucu Diamante& Yerbauena, Juan Fernando Velasco (Ecuador), Jovanotti (Italia), Juanes (Colombia), Luis Eduardo Aute (España), Miguel Bosé (España), Olga Tañón (Puerto Rico), Orishas (Cuba), Silvio Rodríguez (Cuba), Van Van,(Cuba) Carlos Varela(Cuba), Víctor Manuel,(España) , Cucu Diamantes & Yerbabuena (Cuba-Venezuela) y X Alfonso (Cuba).
El concierto tendrá lugar en la Plaza de la Revolución “José Martí” de 2 a 6 de la tarde, hora local.
El escenario está ubicado en el mismo sitio donde se construyó el altar para la histórica misa del Papa Juan Pablo II en enero de 1998.
Los artistas y organizadores están pidiendo que los artistas y el público vistan prendas de color blanco como símbolo de paz y están de acuerdo en que el concierto no tendrá mensajes políticos de ninguna índole.
Los artistas locales y extranjeros se limitarán a cantar sus canciones más conocidas. No habrá presentadores en la tarima. La entrada al concierto será libre y gratuita.
El evento será transmitido en vivo y vía satélite por la Televisión Cubana y la señal puede ser utilizada libremente en cualquier país y por cualquier canal de televisión, sitio de Internet o estación radio que lo haya solicitado y sin ninguna restricción.
Más de 160 periodistas de todo el mundo se han acreditado para hacer el cubrimiento del evento y varios canales de televisión y sitios de Internet están programando la transmisión en vivo del Segundo Concierto “Paz sin Fronteras”.
Un total de 128 personas entre artistas, músicos, técnicos y manejadores viajarán a La Habana para la realización de este concierto.
La cantante puertorriqueña Olga Tañón, ganadora de 5 Premios Grammy, dijo: “El 20 de septiembre, con el favor de Dios, haremos realidad y con mucho sacrificio nuestro propósito. Sólo el tiempo podrá pasar juicio sobre nuestra aportación a esta situación histórica. Mantengo mi Fe en que la música teje las almas de la humanidad y nosotros los artistas somos tan solo los instrumentos.”
Juan Formell, fundador y director de la orquesta cubana Van Van, dijo: “Esta es una propuesta a nivel mundial y es muy interesante tanto para la orquesta, como para Cuba, aunque el Concierto por la Paz ha creado un ambiente a veces desfavorable por las opiniones expresadas en Miami, otros se han manifestado muy bien “.
El trovador cubano Amaury Pérez expresó: “El mensaje es que a la paz hay que ofrecerle un concierto todos los días”.
“Esperamos que este concierto de Paz sin Fronteras sirva para extender un puente de mejor entendimiento en las relaciones entre todos los cubanos en especial entre los jóvenes” dijo el rockero colombiano Juanes.
“Voy a Cuba porque quiero”, dijo el cantautor Miguel Bosé.
“Este concierto es un claro gesto de paz, por eso me sumo a él como cubano”, expresó Silvio Rodríguez.
El sistema de sonido, pantallas LED y otros elementos de producción serán enviados temporalmente desde los Estados Unidos a la Habana y no existen patrocinadores de ninguna clase para este evento.
Los gastos de producción local los cubrirá el Instituto Cubano de la Música.
Los otros gastos de producción correrán por cuenta de algunos de los artistas que están participando en el concierto y ningún artista está cobrando honorarios por su presentación.
La SGAE, Air Europa, A&C Charters y Aerosur están colaborando con parte de los gastos de ensayos y algunos boletos aéreos.
