News and Information Coverage of the USA-Mexico FIFA World Cup Qualifying Math Delivers Record Audience for ESPN Deportes

ESPN Deportes was the place for sports news and information surrounding last night’s 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between the United States Men’s National Soccer Team and Mexico’s National Soccer Team. The match, a 2-1 victory by the Mexico team, helped ESPN Deportes become the most-viewed Spanish-language cable network for the day, delivering an average 100,000 Hispanic viewers.
The 6 p.m. edition of Fútbol Picante, the network’s Mexican soccer nightly news and information program, was seen in an average of 158,000 Hispanic homes (283,000 Hispanic viewers) based on a 3.4 Hispanic rating, making it the most-watched program on Spanish-language cable for the day. The 3 p.m. ET pre-game edition was seen in an average of 114,000 Hispanic homes (172,000 Hispanic viewers), based on a 2.5 Hispanic rating.
Additionally, the 10 p.m. ET edition of SportsCenter averaged 238,000 Hispanic viewers, 135,000 Hispanic households and a 2.9 Hispanic rating to become the second most-viewed and second highest-rated SportsCenter telecast (the most watched was May 27, 2009, the day of the UEFA final, with 186,000 Hispanic homes and 261,000 Hispanic viewers). Cronómetro, the network’s program modeled after ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption, was seen by in an average of 145,000 Hispanic homes (280,000 Hispanic viewers) based on a 3.1 Hispanic rating.
ESPN Deportes featured more than eight hours of live news and information programming around the match led by three live hours of Futbol Picante and five live editions of SportsCenter.
