“Secretary of Labor will speak at the 80th annual convention of the League of United Latin American Citizens in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17. Secretary Solis will speak at two major convention events, the Women’s Luncheon and the Women’s Hall of Fame High Tea reception.

“We are delighted to have Secretary Solis address our members at our national convention,” said National President Rosa Rosales. “Secretary Solis recognizes the importance role the Latino community plays in our economy and understands the contributions that Latinas have made throughout our history.”The Woman’s Hall of Fame Pinning Ceremony and High Tea reception highlights contributions made by Latinas to the U.S. and Puerto Rico and U.S. territories and features the induction of eight women into the Women’s Hall of Fame.

“I am honored that a Latina holds the position of Secretary of Labor and hope this will create more jobs for all women,” said National Vice President for Women Regla Gonzalez.

Secretary Solis was confirmed on Feb. 24, 2009. Prior to her confirmation, she represented the 32nd Congressional District of California in the House of Representatives, a position she held from 2001 to 2009. Her priorities in Congress included expanding access to affordable health care, protecting the environment and improving the lives of working families. She also authored the Green Jobs Act to provide funding for “green collar” job training for veterans, displaced workers, at risk youth, and working class families.

This year’s convention will bring much-needed relief for thousands of unemployed Puerto Ricans by hosting the largest job fair since the event was established decades ago. The fair will be open to all from Wednesday, July 15 to Friday, July 17. Job applicants will be able to interview with government agency recruiters for available job openings. Job candidates can post their resumes at www.lulac.org/jobfair.
