Oscar de la Hoya, Julio Cesar Chavez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Roberto Duran, Cristian Castro, Fanny Lu, Gloria Trevi, Pee Wee and Luny Tunes to Appear at Second Annual ‘Tecate Premios Deportes’ Awards Show

“The all-star lineup of entertainers and sports celebrities for the “Tecate Premios Deportes” (Tecate Sports Awards) was announced today. The second annual show will follow a red carpet celebration at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on June 25, 2009, and will be broadcast on the Univision Network on Sunday, July 5, 2009.

Hosts of the gala event include popular novela actress/comedienne Angelica Vale, Univision’s Fernando Fiore of “Republica Deportiva,” and popular Chilean actor Cristian de la Fuente.

This year’s lineup of celebrities scheduled to present awards includes celebrated sports figures Oscar de la Hoya, Luis Castillo (award-nominee), Steven Goldstein (award-nominee), Jim Plunkett, Antonio Perez (award-nominee), Rey Mysterio, Jeff Garcia (award-nominee), recording artists Diana Reyes and Pablo Montero, actress and model Daisy Fuentes, and television personality Raul de Molina among others.

Among the recording artists scheduled to perform are pop diva Gloria Trevi, Mexican crooner Cristian Castro, Colombian singer Fanny Lu, regional Mexican music artist Lupillo Rivera, reggaeton group La Factoria with Eddy Lover, and regional Mexican group La Arrolladora Banda El Limon.

Also scheduled to receive the Golden Eagle Award is No. 28 in Ring magazine’s list of 100 greatest punchers of all time, Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Duran. Additionally, famed boxer Julio Cesar Chavez and former MLB pitcher Luis Tiant will be honored with a special tribute during the live show.

Special appearances are also expected by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Luis Castillo, Steven Goldstein, Jim Plunkett, Antonio Prez, Ricardo Osorio, Maykel Galindo, Eduardo Lillingston, Ricardo Rodante, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Garcia, Pablo Montero, Diana Reyes, Lupillo Rivera, La Factoria with Eddy Lover, La Arrolladora Banda El Limon and Patrulla 81.

Nearly 60 Hispanic athletes from six sports categories are being considered based on their statistical excellence, participation in a televised professional sport in the United States during 2008, cumulative impact on their team and in the sport, and their reputation as a role model for the Hispanic community.

Nominees were selected by a distinguished panel of current and former professional athletes and sports personalities, including famed boxer Oscar de la Hoya; retired NFL player Tony Casillas; NFL Hall of Fame recipient Anthony Munoz; former Mexican soccer coach and Univision sportscaster Jesus Bracamontes; Enrique Borja, legendary Mexican forward and former team president of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon’s (UANL) Tigres, former MLB shortstop and current Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, retired Mexican goalie Jorge Campos, Univision executive producer Art Izquierdo and Univision Radio personality Rafael “El Alcalde” Hernandez.

Sports fans also played an important role in selecting the winners by voting online at Univision.com (Uniclave: Premios Deportes) for the following categories: Baseball Player of the Year, Soccer Team of the Year, Athlete of the Year, and Rising Star Award.

Tickets to the celebrity-filled event are available to the general public through TicketMaster at www.ticketmaster.com for $45 and $65.
