US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to dramatically expand an immigration enforcement program that uses biometric information to check the immigration status of all individuals booked at state and local jails. Known as Secure Communities, ICE expects to make the program available to each of the nation’s 1,200 state and federal prisons and 3,100 local jails by the end of 2012. From: migrationinformation.org
