“Castro Cheese Company, manufacturer of “La Vaquita”(R) brand Hispanic cheeses and creams, will be exhibiting at the 2009 Show of the International Dairy, Deli, and Bakery Association (IDDBA), June 7-9, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia.

With more than 30 years in the market, La Vaquita has become an iconic brand for the US Hispanic community. The company’s Queso Fresco cheese is their most popular product, and it has a special and regular place at the table of Latino families in the US.

In spite of the current economic crisis, the company has continued to increase its market share. La Vaquita is the second largest Hispanic cheese brand in the US in spite of its limited distribution, and it has played a role in growing the Hispanic cheese category in the US. Total US production of Hispanic cheese increased 183% percent from 1996 to 2008.

According to Elizabeth Castro, VP of Sales and Marketing, “La Vaquita offers our customers the flavors, smells, and memories that take them back to their mothers’ kitchens. That’s why they prefer our products.”

As many stores modify their assortment to cater to the growing Latino population, La Vaquita has been a key partner. The company not only provides high quality products, but it also lends its expertise to help its partners succeed in the Hispanic market.

The brand is available at many popular retailers, including Fiesta Mart, H.E.B., Kroger, Wal-Mart, Buy For Less, and many others.

La Vaquita has also transcended cultural boundaries. Non-Hispanics have turned to La Vaquita for many reasons: to satisfy their need for authentic Latin-flavor, as a lower fat but flavorful alternative to other cheeses, or to take advantage of the fact that La Vaquita cheeses are vegetarian.
