The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has received honorable mention in the LATINA Style Magazine 50 Awards, considered to be the most respected evaluation of corporate America’s career development opportunities for Hispanic women. AAFES’ Karen Stack, senior vice president of the military retailer’s western region, will accept the award, on behalf of the Department of Defense’s oldest and largest exchange service, at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 5.
“AAFES is proud to be recognized as a diversity leader as it mirrors the military members it serves,” stated AAFES Director of Diversity Jeanne McDonald. “The LATINA Style award further validates AAFES’ importance placed on diversity in the workforce.”
More than 800 of the most prominent corporations in the US were included in the search and evaluated based on issues that LATINA Style readers identified as most important to them in the workplace. Among the principal areas of evaluation for recognition were number of Latina executives, mentoring programs, Latina board members, educational opportunities, alternative work policies, dependent/child care support, employee benefits, women’s issues, job retraining, affinity groups and Hispanic relations.
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is a joint command and is directed by a Board of Directors which is responsible to the Secretaries of the Army and the Air Force through the Service Chiefs of Staff. AAFES has the dual mission of providing authorized patrons with articles of merchandise and services and generating non-appropriated fund earnings as a supplemental source of funding for military Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs.
