KMEX Univision 34 Ends November Sweeps as the #1 Television Station in Los Angeles among Adults 18-49

With two days left in the November 2008 sweep, results show that Univision’s flagship station, KMEX Univision 34, delivered more Adults 18-49 viewers than any other station in Los Angeles. Regardless of language, KMEX Univision 34 was the most watched station in all major dayparts; primetime, daytime, early fringe, early evening news and late local news.

The November 2008 sweep marks the sixth November sweep and 19th consecutive major sweep period where KMEX-TV has ranked as L.A.’s top rated station in average primetime ratings for all key adult demographics: Adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. KMEX-TV averaged ratings well above all other stations including the major English-language network affiliates, KABC-TV (ABC), KTTV (FOX), KCBS-TV (CBS), and KNBC-TV (NBC).

- KMEX-TV was the top rated station among Adults 18-49 in primetime for 23 of the 26 days during November sweep.
- KMEX-TV’s 9:00 p.m. novela “Fuego en la Sangre” (Burning for Revenge) was the highest rated regularly scheduled primetime program among Adults 18-49 surpassing the ratings of even the top English-language shows including “The Simpsons” (KTTV-TV), “Desperate Housewives” (KABC-TV), “Two and a Half Men” (KCBS-TV) and “Law and Order: SVU” (KNBC-TV).
- This year’s 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards gave KMEX-TV the highest rated program of the November Sweeps among Adults 18-34 and 18-49, beating out all other November specials such as ABC’s “2008 American Music Awards” (KABC-TV) and sports, including all NFL on KNBC-TV, KCBS-TV and KTTV-TV. Further, the Latin GRAMMY Awards showed a +3% ratings increase versus last year’s telecast among Adults 18-49.
News Ratings Highlights
- In a sweep that included a historic Presidential Election, KMEX-TV’s “Noticias 34” (News 34) and network news, “Noticiero Univision” (Univision News) ranked as the #1 weekday news programs at 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. among all key demographics (Adults 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54) surpassing all English-language news. Even more impressive, “Noticias 34” has been the #1 ranked 6:00 p.m. news among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49 for 59 consecutive major Nielsen sweeps (since May 1994) and showed double-digit ratings increases over November 2007’s results among all of the above adult demos.
- KMEX-TV posted the highest ratings during the weekday 11:00 p.m. local news half hour, with, “Noticias 34 Edicion Nocturna” (News 34 Evening Edition) among Adults 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54. Further, “Noticias 34 Edicion Nocturna” showed double-digit ratings increases over November 2007’s results among Adults 18-34 and 18-49 demos.
Ratings Highlights for Other Key Dayparts
- In daytime (Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), KMEX-TV averaged much higher ratings among all key adult and women demographics than any other station in Los Angeles. The top program in daytime among the important Women 18-49 demo was KMEX-TV’s “Lola… Erase Una Vez” (Lola… Once Upon A Time) from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., surpassing the ratings of “The View” (KABC-TV), “Martha” (KNBC-TV), and “The Price is Right” (KCBS-TV).
- KMEX-TV also continues to rank as the highest rated station in early fringe (Monday-Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) among all key demos. For Adults 18-34 and 18-49 the top program in early fringe is KMEX-TV’s “Palabra de Mujer” (A Woman’s Word) from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. averaging ratings higher than “The Oprah Winfrey Show” (KABC-TV), “Dr. Phil” (KCBS-TV) and “Ellen” (KNBC-TV).
