“For the second year in a row, DeVry University will sponsor the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards official After-Party gift bag, which will be handed to all attendees.

The 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will take place Nov. 13 at the Toyota Center in Houston and will be broadcast live on the Univision Network at 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET/PT).

DeVry University is the first organization of higher education to support the Latin GRAMMY After-Party Gift Bag. “We are extremely proud to be associated with an event that recognizes such amazing talent on a global scale,” said Melanie Wright, East Region Public Relations Manager for DeVry, and coordinator of the university’s participation in the event.

The effort is part of the university’s “commitment to our large percentage of Hispanic students to make a college education accessible and possible,” said David J. Pauldine, president of DeVry University. “Students of color make up approximately 50 percent of the student population at DeVry University nationwide,” says Pauldine. “From Miami to Los Angeles, Houston to New York, DeVry University remains committed to serving the Latino population by familiarizing ourselves with the unique needs of this population and embracing the talent among Latinos enrolled at DeVry.”

In addition, DeVry University has supported several efforts to extend a college education to Latino families and students through partnership scholarship programs with businesses such as Banco Popular, and not-for-profit organizations such as ASPIRA, a group devoted to empowering Latino youth through education, mentoring and leadership training. Also, DeVry supports LULAC – League of United Latin American Citizens, the largest and oldest Hispanic Organization in the United States that advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans though community-based programs.

The 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will air live on the Spanish-language television network Univision and will be seen globally in more than 100 countries. At this year’s event, The Latin Recording Academy®will honor Cuban-American superstar Gloria Estefan as the 2008 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year in recognition of her professional, musical and social accomplishments.

“We are excited to be a part of this exciting cultural event for the Latino community, and proud to be able help make a higher education degree a realizable goal for all Latino students,” said Wright. “
