CODISCOS / TROPISOUNDS with 6 Latin Grammy nominations!

CODISCOS, the Colombian record label with a 60-year musical history, and TROPISOUNDS, its exclusive licensee in the United States, have repeated their feat of achieving 6 nominations for the Latin Grammy’s in 2008.

This time around singer songwriter MONICA GIRALDO is up for Best New Artist. Her breakthrough album TODO DA VUELTAS is getting rave reviews for its original and fresh style, which combines pop and jazz with traditional Latin instrumentation. She has been compared to a Spanish language Norah Jones.

For the Best Salsa Album category, CODISCOS / TROPISOUNDS have both GRUPO GALE “Auténtico” and MAELO RUIZ with “Puro corazón”. MAELO RUIZ has been all over tropical radio with his hits “Te va a doler” and “Culpable o no”.

And for the Best Cumbia Vallenato Album, the label repeats its dominance in the category with 3 nominations out of the 5 entries. This time around the albums nominated for Best Cumbia Vallenato are PETER MANJARRES’ “Solo Clásicos”, EMILIANO & TOBA ZULETA with “Palabra de honor”, and EL COMBO DE LAS ESTRELLAS with “Somos la esencia”.

“Needless to say, we are ecstatic with all these nominations,” said Dennis Murcia, International A&R (Artist and repertoire) for the record label. “In 2007 we had 6 nominations and brought 2 Latin Grammy’s home. This year, it is incredible to have the same amount of nominations. We are also participating in different categories, which mirror the diversity of our artist roster.
