“Sorpresa!, America’s fastest-growing Spanish-language children’s network, will launch the popular live-action Chilean teen TV series, Karku, for U.S. Hispanic tween and teen audiences on August 25 at 9 p.m. ET. Premiering as part of Sorpresa!’s “back-to-school” celebration, Hispanic teens across the U.S. are invited into the world of 13-year-old Emilia and her five friends as they experience the trials and tribulations of growing up.
“Karku offers our audience of Hispanic youth an in-culture, in-language experience that reflects the universal fears and excitement of transitioning from a child to a young adult,” said Maria Badillo, SVP of Programming for Sorpresa!. “The tween and teen audience will identify with the challenges and successes of the characters, and parents will appreciate the show’s emphasis on the value of hard work to achieve goals.”
Set in metropolitan Santiago, , Karku is the first TV series for kids produced in Latin America that follows a telenovela format. The premiere season of Karku follows Emilia and her friends, Fernanda, Valentina, Zico, Alex and Martin, as they work together to earn money for their school’s year-end trip. The series not only represents the reality of the teenage world - their language, their music, their dreams and their fears - but it also promotes traditional values like diligence, teamwork and friendship.
New episodes of Karku will premiere on Sorpresa! on every Monday through Thursday at 9 p.m. ET. “
