California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Links Up with National Hispanic Business Information Clearinghouse

California is the leading state for Hispanic-owned businesses and two premier Hispanic business organizations are joining forces to ensure these 744,791 firms have access to vital resources to grow and succeed.

The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and the National Hispanic Business Information Clearinghouse today announced a partnership to provide critical business information to CHCC members through NHBIC’s free bilingual web site at www.nhbic.org. The announcement came during CHCC’s 29th Annual Convention & Business Expo this week in San Francisco, CA.

“The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce is pleased to partner with NHBIC to add this new service to help our members build their businesses through technology,” says CHCC President Joel Ayala. “The business resources on NHBIC’s web site levels the playing field by giving Hispanic firms access to online information not available before because of cost or language differences.”

“The number of Hispanic-owned businesses in the U.S. is estimated at 2.8 million in 2007 and expected to reach 4.3 million by 2012,” says NHBIC founder Salvador Gomez. “But 88% are small businesses where the owner is self-employed with no paid employees. If they have access to the business information they need, including resources in Spanish, it increases their chances of growing and succeeding.”

Gomez is citing data from “Hispanic-Owned Business Growth Projections to 2012,” a report by HispanTelligence, the research division of Hispanic Business Inc. The 2007 report was also the source for the estimated number of firms in California (744,791 in 2006), according to HispanTelligence’s analysis of 2002 data of U.S. Census Survey of Business Owners.

The National Hispanic Business Information Clearinghouse, a non-profit organization created to help Hispanics start or expand a business, offers two unique programs. The first is a bilingual web site providing essential business information on ‘Money, Markets and Management’ to stimulate economic development among U.S. Hispanics. The second, the Entrepreneurial Development Center, provides access to the latest business information, online training and best practices in business.

“All of NHBIC’s components are geared toward building a more vibrant business community within the U.S. Hispanic population, which now totals 45.5 million people,” says NHBIC President Michael Barrera, citing updated census data. “Our partnership not only promotes the growth and success of Hispanic business in California, it also strengthens the contributions Hispanics entrepreneurs make to our country’s economy.”

NHBIC special features include pre-screened and categorized business content translated in English and Spanish; custom search engine aimed at top business resources; links to local and national resources; plus and online training videos, templates, tools and resources.

About the NHBIC: The National Hispanic Business Information Clearinghouse, a not-for-profit organization, launched its bilingual web site in 2007 to provide information to Hispanics starting or expanding a business. Its purpose is to empower new and established entrepreneurs, build financial independence and strength in the Latino community, and boost Hispanic contributions to the U.S. economy.
