“Gov. Mike Easley has appointed Yasmin Wurts Metivier of Apex to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic/Latino Affairs.

Metivier is the president of Panoltia, Inc. She is the advisor to the Institute of Mexicans Abroad and is the host of Open-Net, an English-Spanish website. She is a member of the N.C. Society of Hispanic Professionals. Metivier was awarded the Latino Diamante Award for Business in 2002 and was featured in “Women Extraordinaire in N.C.” by Business Leader Magazine in 2002. She received her Bachelors degree in business and her Masters degree in marketing from ISEC University in Mexico City.

The council advises the governor on issues relating to the Hispanic/Latino community in North Carolina, supports state efforts toward the improvement of race and ethnic relations and provides a forum for discussion of issues concerning the Hispanic/Latino community. The advisory council has 28 members serving at the pleasure of the governor. The governor appoints 15 members. The secretary of the Department of Administration, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, the secretary of the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, the secretary of Revenue, the commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles, the chairman of the Employment Security Commission, the commissioner of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the commissioner of Labor, the superintendent of Public Instruction, the Honorary Consul of Mexico, the secretary of Commerce, a member of the governor’s legal counsel and the attorney general also serve on the board. “
