Cristian de la Fuente Is Honorary Guest at Grand Opening of North America’s First Sea Life Aquarium

WHAT: The official “kelp cutting” for North America’s first SEA LIFE™ Aquarium as its doors open to the public for the first time on August 11, 2008. The grand opening ceremony includes entertainment, the announcement of the S.O.S. (Save our Seas) Poster Project winners and special guest Cristián de la Fuente.

SEA LIFE Aquarium at LEGOLAND® California Resort provides an educational and interactive dynamic unlike any other. With more than 200 species, 70 LEGO® models, Fin Facts and quiz trails, SEA LIFE is truly designed to be a child’s guide to the life of the sea. It’s interactive, immersive and inspirational.

WHO: Cristián de la Fuente, currently staring on “In Plain Sight” on the USA Network and a finalist from “Dancing with the Stars,” will join President and General Manager John Jakobsen and Senior Curator Chris Spaulding in officially welcoming the first guests and presenting three lucky and talented winners of the S.O.S. (Save our Seas) Poster Project with grand prize packages.

De la Fuente, who is passionate about conservation especially in his homeland of Chile, will accept a donation on behalf of SEA LIFE Aquarium’s S.O.S. campaign to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

All 15 finalists from the SEA LIFE S.O.S. Poster Project, all between the ages of 4 and 12, will be among the first to enter the new Aquarium.

DETAILS: The 36,000 square-foot two-story Aquarium features 14 areas intended to inspire, immerse and educate children about the wonderful creatures of the sea. The Lost City of Atlantis features a 10-foot-tall, 1700 pound statue of Poseidon, amazing sea creatures including sharks and sting rays, and an 11-foot-long LEGO® submarine and divers made of thousands of bricks.

NRDC is an environmental action group supported by 1.2 million members and activists. Their mission is to safeguard the earth: its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends.

Cristián de la Fuente is listed as one of the “7 Sizzling Men of Summer TV” in the August 4, 2008 issue of US Weekly Magazine and was the first male to grace the cover of Cosmopolitan En Espanol (November 2006). He was named one of the 50 most beautiful by People Magazine En Espanol four times and in 1999 in People Magazine USA.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Cristián is an adventurous spirit and an avid sportsman. He is a First Lieutenant in the Chilean Air Force Reserve and a member of “Halcones,” the High Aerobatics team. Cristián resides in Los Angeles with his wife Angelica Castro and their daughter.
