“The Governors Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs today commended Pennsylvania Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortes on becoming president of the National Association of Secretaries of State. NASS is the oldest, non-partisan, professional organization of public officials in the United States, established in 1904.

Pedro is the first Pennsylvanian to serve as president of NASS, GACLA Executive Director Norman Bristol Colon said. A truly remarkable leader who has contributed so much to our commonwealth now will do the same nationally.

On behalf of more than 550,000 Latino Pennsylvanians, I commend Secretary Cortes and express our collective sense of community pride for his accomplishments and leadership as one of Pennsylvanias finest public servants.

Cortes was appointed by Governor Rendell in 2003, becoming the first confirmed Latino cabinet member in our states history. For more information on the Department of State, visit www.dos.state.pa.us, and on the Governors Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs, visit www.gacla.state.pa.us.
