Richard Garcia, a 1982 Edison High School graduate, was reluctant to discuss his life in Stockton, rejecting labels that have been used over and over to describe him: a poor Mexican boy who lacked positive male role models and who was surrounded by violence.
Today, he is a pediatrician and a writer.
“I don’t care how people categorize me,” said Garcia, 44. “That story has been told already.”"*
