During the Republican presidential primary, conservatives slammed John McCain for his ardent support of comprehensive immigration reform, frequently invoking his support of a bill, alongside Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, that sparked outrage among those who favor an enforcement-first approach to solving illegal immigration.
Now, though, McCain’s longtime relationship with Hispanic voters, and the resulting good will, could be just what Republicans need to woo what is becoming a crucial voting bloc that is only going to grow in coming years”*
