“Latino leaders and health officials say HIV and AIDS have become crises in the Latino community and are calling for federal policies aimed at preventive care and early treatment.

In news conferences in Manhattan and other major U.S. cities, Latino leaders said Tuesday that Hispanics are disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS. They said that Latinos account for 19 percent of people living with AIDS and 25 percent of HIV diagnoses, although they make up about 15 percent of the U.S. population.”*
