“The Orangetown Police Department has hired its first certified Spanish-speaking officer and has plans to hire a second, a move that officials say will help meet the needs of the town’s changing population.

The Town Board voted this week to allow the hiring of two police officers from the county Personnel Department’s Spanish-speaking list. Rafael Gonzalez, a Haverstraw resident and an officer with the New York Police Department, was hired for one position and town officials are hoping to fill the other soon.”*
