Ochoa, the top-ranked female player in the world, could be the hybrid that rescues golf in the absence of the men’s No. 1, Tiger Woods, who is out for the rest of the year with a knee injury. A heavy favorite in the Women’s United States Open, which starts Thursday, Ochoa is part Woods, part Rocco Mediate, dominating the women’s tour with victories in 6 of 10 starts this year and winning fans with her common touch.
