Barack Obama did a couple of things last week in an effort to maximize his campaign strategy beyond the upcoming Democratic National Convention.
One got lots of attention and coverage; the other one not so much, but it was just as important in his run for the White House.
By making an about-face and declining to accept public campaign funds for the race against Republican John McCain, Obama is now free to ratchet up his fundraising machine, from grassroots contributors to big donors. He is expected to raise more than what he would have received in public money — $85 million — and will continually have to answer to McCain’s criticism that his word is not trustworthy.”*
