Outbreak squeezes local salsa producers - Oregon (luckily I love salsa verde)

““I’m sure we’re going to see some” drop off in sales, said Stan Stubble­field, president of De Casa Fine Foods, a Eugene company that makes Salsa De Casa. “Hopefully consumers will understand the stores are on top of it. … This is our big time of the year.”

Several grocery chains contacted Reser’s Fine Foods in Beaverton this week, wondering if they should pull Reser’s salsas off their shelves, said Steve Loehndorf, the company’s technical director. He figures that he wrote “probably 50 letters,” assuring buyers that Reser’s doesn’t use raw tomatoes and that the product is safe, he said.”*
