After the breakup of Bacilos, his successful folk-pop trio from Miami, Jorge Villamizar found himself drawn to the native country he left behind.
“I grew up musically in the Miami scene, with people like Elsten Torres from Fulano, the guys from La Secta, the Spam Allstars,” Villamizar says. “But I became more attracted to Colombia. I bought a house there and decided to collaborate with musicians from there.”
Villamizar, whose new self-titled solo album was released last week on Warner Music Latina, cherishes his time with Bacilos. The partnership yielded three albums and a massive single, “Mi Primer Millon (My First Million),” that reconciled the gap between creative songwriting and massive sales.”*
