“In January of 2006, a group of community leaders and neighbors came together to organize the first Portland Latino Gay Pride Celebration. The volunteer planning committee partnered with El Hispanic and the Jupiter Hotel to create an event that recognized the talents and contributions of gay Latinos and Latinas and to celebrate Latino Culture and GLBTQ Pride in our community. With a proclamation by Portland Mayor Tom Potter and Multnomah County Commissioner Maria Rojo de Steffey, a new community tradition was established.”*
