Knowledge is Power!
Seems as if one of the Blogante Essentials entitled “Couple making dichos are smart cookies” about Raul and Marina Montaño of the Douglas, Arizona and their Dichos isn’t quite as original as I thought as I received two e-mails regarding Sid and his Takitos. Here is an excerpt from an article about him and his product from 2004.
But Isidro “Sid” Martinez, a former police officer turned fledging entrepreneur, is going a step further by investing his very future in one.The 45-year-old has reinvented the after-meal cookie in the shape of a taco with the taste of cinnamon, a signature spice found in pastries of the Hispanic culture. But instead of an English fortune with lottery numbers on a slip of paper, cookie lovers get a dicho saying or proverb in both Spanish and English.
The San Antonian wants his bilingual Takito to become an after-meal staple at Mexican eateries – from family-owned holes in the wall to monster chains such as Taco Bell – like the fortune cookie is to Chinese restaurants.”*
and this is part of the e-mail I got from Sid himself
“I was informed about an article your paper/webiste wrote regarding the Douglas, AZ couple that claim to of have invented the Dichos taco cookie.
Please be advised that whomever wrote that article did not due their due diligence. I Sid Martinez, from San Antonio, Texas (a former Police Officer) created, developed, marketed this concept back in 1999 to present.
This copycat, we wish him well, but my market has a huge head start, and loyal customers.
Maybe you can direct this to the reporter who wrote this and have him/her look at the attached, for validation.”
He included 2 articles but for speed sake I am just linking to this one but I have to agree with him. The LA Times reporter missed this. Plus I wonder if this product idea could have been protected (or is) in some way.
