Miami residents who do not speak Spanish are in the minority, and the language divide has an impact on the job market.
According to the latest U.S. Census information, 60 percent of Miami residents are Hispanic. Miami-Dade County’s non-Hispanic white population has decreased from 80 percent in the 1950s to about 18 percent.
“Things have changed tremendously. I remember Miami in 1962, when I was about 9 1/2, and no one really spoke Spanish here,” said FIU professor Dr. Ana Roca”*
