“Sickened by last year’s mass killing of dogs and cats in the Puerto Rican town of Barceloneta, an animal-loving mom and daughter team have launched a campaign in New York to help a spay-neuter program on the island.

On June 21, TV commentator Jane Vélez Mitchell and her writer-mom, Anita Vélez Mitchell, will be dedicating a free concert in Brooklyn to the many needy pets and strays in Puerto Rico that could benefit from spaying, neutering and medical attention.

Last fall, dozens of animals were thrown off a bridge by a company hired to enforce a ban on pet ownership by residents of Barceloneta’s public housing project.”*
