Georgia: Hispanic-owned business spread to rural areas

“In search of greater entrepreneurial opportunities, Mexico native Edel López moved from Dalton, Ga., to LaFayette, Ga., three months ago to open El Cancún restaurant.

“I visited the city once and thought it would be a good place to open a Mexican restaurant because there weren’t others; there wasn’t any competition,” Mr. López, who owns another restaurant in Chatsworth, Ga., said speaking in Spanish.

Over the past five to six years, Hispanic-owned businesses have spread from larger towns such as Dalton into smaller towns in more rural areas, said Dr. Marilyn Helms, a management professor at Dalton State College in Georgia.”*
